The Air Force awarded contracts for jet engines.

For the second year in a row, the Air Force said it would split a lucrative contract for jet engines between two competing contractors. In contrast with last year, however, General Electric and United Technologies' Pratt & Whitney aircraft group will split the $1.3-billion deal almost evenly. Last year, when GE broke the longstanding monopoly of Pratt & Whitney on engines for the F-15 and F-16 fighters, it won 75% of the total.
