A series of new bicycle lanes linking major public facilities in Cerritos will be added to several city streets beginning next month.
The City Council has unanimously approved the city's first bike-lane system, which will connect East Park, the Olympic Swim Center, City Hall, the main library, Heritage Park, the regional county park, Liberty Park and the bicycle trail along the San Gabriel River Channel.
On some streets, a separate bike lane will be painted, while along others green signs will be erected to mark the route or a sidewalk will be designated as the bike path.
Those streets in the project include Del Amo Boulevard between Pioneer Boulevard and the San Gabriel River Trail; Pioneer between 195th Street and Del Amo; 195th between Pioneer and Bloomfield Avenue; South Street between Bloomfield and Carmenita Road; Carmenita between South and 166th Street, and short stretches of Bloomfield and Shoemaker Avenue.
The cost of the project is $26,365 and completion is scheduled for mid-March.
