Community for Active Retirement Launched

Construction has begun on the Continental Retirement Community of Anaheim, a residential facility for those 65 and older who are healthy and active but who no longer want to bother with caring for a house and cooking meals. It is expected to open in January, 1986.

The project, on 7.2 acres at the corner of Anaheim Hills and Nohl Ranch roads in Anaheim Hills, will contain 204 apartments ranging from 550 to 900 square feet, along with a dining room, spas, swimming pool, shuffleboard and lawn bowling, gardens, lounges, library, meeting room, beauty salon and barbershop, and an in-house limousine service to take residents shopping, to medical appointments or to recreational and social activities.

In addition to meal service in the dining room, each apartment will contain a kitchenette and state-of-the-art communication equipment connected to a 24-hour response desk. Residents will have the use of a private subterranean parking structure with elevator access to the lobby.

Rentals will be on a month-to-month basis and will range from $1,300 to $2,000 a month, which will include meals, maid service, transportation, laundry and other necessities but not such services as the beauty salon or barbershop.

The owner/developer--and also engineer and general contractor--is CPE Engineers Inc. of Irvine (formerly VTN Corp.), whose Continental Health Management Systems division will provide round-the-clock management, including an administrator, full-time activities director, registered nurse, dietitian and dining and maintenance personnel.

The architect is Corbin Yamafuji & Partners and financing is through First Interstate Mortgage. CPE Engineers will begin construction in May on a similar project in Laguna Hills and plans eight others in Southern California.
