MONTEREY PARK — City Manager Lloyd de Llamas and Manny Hernandez, senior community representative of the Southern California Rapid Transit District, will discuss public transportation at a noon luncheon Friday at the Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce, 163 W. Garvey Ave. They will explain how money collected from a half-cent county sales tax for transportation is being spent.
The tax will produce nearly $500,000 in revenue for Monterey Park this year. About $64,000 is being spent on a dial-a-ride program for senior citizens. A study is now under way to help the City Council decide how the remainder of the money could be used to improve transit services.
