How kind of John R. Hill (Letters, Feb. 13) to be concerned about the image of my good friend, Eustace Tilley. I'm afraid, though, Conrad's cartoon (Jan. 31) is right. Eustace Tilley does carry a gun. The revolver, according to Eustace, has replaced the riding crop as a means of fending off ne'er-do-wells who ask for money and who, at times, can be thoroughly impolite.
