Serra (19-5) will try to use its speed and pressure to rattle Crespi (16-7), which is small but extremely well-coached and versatile.
If Serra's Mark Sutherlin has another big game, Crespi will be in trouble. The Cavaliers' burly 6-5 center had 33 points in the playoff opener against Servite.
Crespi has nobody taller than 6-3 and can't match the Cavs' speed or depth. Crespi may have the CIF's best-shooting duo in guards Joe Campanella and Brian Capp, who have the green light. They combined for nearly 60 points in the opening-round playoff victory over Long Beach Jordan. Point guard Alfie Basile, who broke the school assist record, sets them up. Jon Kirchner and junior Steve Tanin do the dirty work inside. They'll be asked to contain Sutherlin and team scoring leader Keith Malone.
7:30 p.m. Friday at El Camino College.
