Trio Arrested After Robbery at Tustin Home

March 02, 1985

Three men were arrested on suspicion of residential robbery shortly after members of a Tustin family were gagged and bound in their home and robbed of jewelry and coins, police said Friday.

The suspects were captured about 10 p.m. Thursday when two of them hopped a yard fence carrying a pellet gun and items allegedly taken from the home, and found themselves facing an officer, according to Tustin Police Investigator Mark Bergquist. A third suspect was found lying on the floor of a nearby truck, Bergquist said, which the officer had been summoned to check out by a suspicious resident.

Booked Into Jail

Frank Evans, 26, a Huntington Beach painter, and two laborers, Geoffrey Gibson, 28, of Anaheim and John Yapuncich, 25, of Santa Ana were booked into Orange County Jail, where they were being held on $50,000 bail each.

Police said two men broke into the family's home on Via Pasada, ordered the five victims--ages 13 to 40--to lie on the floor and tied them up.

Bergquist refused to comment Friday on whether the suspects knew the victims, who were not identified.
