Driver Runs Amok on Highway, Blames 'Superior Beings'

March 07, 1985|Associated Press

WINDSOR, Conn. — A driver who said he was "guided by superior beings" spent several hours running cars and trucks off the road before police officers rammed his car to stop him early Wednesday, authorities said. No one was injured.

Frank D. Curtis, 63, of Simsbury was charged in Windsor Superior Court with first-degree reckless endangerment and engaging in pursuit, state Trooper Kenneth Lacko said. He said that Avon and Hartford police planned to file additional charges against Curtis.

"I caught up with him in New Hartford and chased him into Avon, where I forced him to stop by ramming into his car," said Trooper Michael Smith, whose cruiser suffered heavy damage.

"He was driving on the wrong side of the road with his lights off."
