Fishing Report : More Striped Bass Strikes Reported in Colorado River

Striped bass are showing signs of activity in the Colorado River. Boat fishermen have been catching stripers up to 15 pounds for several weeks at the I-40 bridge near Needles, but this week some were caught in and around the whitewater at Davis Dam, near Bullhead City, Ariz.

WILLOW BEACH--Cold, windy weather--light fishing pressure. Shore fishing at night or early morning south of resort best bet.

LAKE MEAD--Windy--very light fishing pressure.

BULLHEAD CITY--Good trout fishing on Lake Mohave with lures, trolling five colors, from Katherine's Landing to dam. Power lines on Arizona side good bet for trolling. Slow for largemouth bass.

SALTON SEA--Cold weather slowed down orangemouth corvina, but sargo very good now, all over sea. All other species slow.

LAKE CACHUMA--Good bass fishing this week, numerous limits reported. Kathy Eyman, Santa Barbara, 7-pound bass on crawdad plug. Lou Hannum, Long Beach, bass limit every day this week, largest: 5-0. Plastic worms in shallow water best bet.

LAKE CASITAS--Good bass results. Steve Gray, Ventura, 10-4 and 15-0 bass Wednesday. Best results over spawning areas.

LAKE PYRAMID--Small catfish and trout best bets.

LAKE PIRU--Trout fair to good with cheese baits. Cow, Diablo coves best areas, as well as trolling center of lake. Bass improved.

LAKE CASTAIC--Bruce Ely, Marina del Rey, 14-3 bass in lagoon with purple plastic worm. Craig Cohen, Northridge, 15-4 channel catfish with crawdad in upper lake. Good trout results.

LAKE ISABELLA--Good to excellent bluegill fishing around shores. Bass good;crappies slow. Catfish improved in many shore areas.

SAN DIEGO LAKES--Otay:Good bass fishing, all others slow. San Vicente: Fair to good for bass, with some exceptional catches. Trout slow. Tom Ormsby, Lakeside, 43-6 stringer of four, topped by 12-4. Shiners or plastic worms best bets. Miramar:Trout fair to good, bass improved. El Capitan:Good for big crappie. Some bass to 12-0. Hodges:Good for bass, all other slow. Half-dozen bass weighed in at over 9-0 this week. Sutherland:Opens sunrise, March 15.

PERRIS RESERVOIR--Slow, all species. Some half-limits of trout.

LAKE IRWINDALE--Good for bass, catfish, trout. Bass best bet, limits reported.

VAIL LAKE--Limits of small bass reported. Good for crappies. Good shore fishing for trout.

LAKE SILVERWOOD--A day to remember for Crappie. John Beale: Limit of bass with one 5-4 in stringer, limit of rainbow trout, and five crappies, all over 2-0 in one day. The Tustin angler is rated an expert on big crappies. Cleghorn Canyon best area for crappies. Miller Canyon best for trout.

LAKE HENSHAW--Crappies best bet, with 25-fish limits reported. Other species slow.

BISHOP AREA--Good fishing at Pleasant Valley Reservoir, standard baits. Some brood stock rainbows to 4-0. Lower Owens River good for pan-size rainbows on bait. Slow for fly fishing. Very little surface feeding observed.

Saltwater

Deepwater fishermen on party boats out of Cisco's Sportfishing in Oxnard reported good action on rock cod this week at San Nicolas and Santa Rosa islands, with near-limits reported. Boats leave Cisco's at 2 a.m. daily and return at 6 p.m.

LOS ANGELES--Arroyo Seco Creek, Big Tujunga Creek (Upper, Lower), El Dorado Park Lake, Legg Lakes, Peck Road Park Lake, Piru Creek (Frenchman's Flat), Puddingstone Lake, San Gabriel River (East, North, West forks), Santa Fe Reservoir.

RIVERSIDE--Fulmor Lake, Hemet Lake, Skinner Lake.

SAN BERNARDINO--Cucamonga-Guasti Park Lake, Glen Helen Park Lake, Mojave Narrows Park Lake.

SAN DIEGO--Doane Pond.

ORANGE--Trabuco Creek.

SANTA BARBARA--Lake Cachuma.

VENTURA--Casitas Lake, Matilija Creek, Ventura River (North fork).

SAN LUIS OBISPO--Atascadero Lake, Laguna Lake.
