California bungalow courts--probably the single most distinctive form of residential architecture in Southern California--are honored in the design of 400 Monterey, a 22-unit town house development by Crowbar Investment Co. opening today in Glendale.
The major difference between this new project and the bungalow courts of the 1930s is that 400 Monterey features contemporary architecture by Ron Goldman, AIA, Architect, Malibu. Like the bungalow courts of yesteryear, the units are clustered around courtyards.
Priced from $149,900 to $165,900, the three-level, three-bedroom units with about 1,560 square feet of floor space have skylights in the master bedroom suite, the living room entry and the breakfast room for an indoor-outdoor feeling. Other features include air conditioning, two-car garages, wood-beam ceilings and wood-burning fireplaces. Immediate move-ins are available and the monthly homeowners association fee is $115.
The site is two blocks from Brand Boulevard, the heart of Glendale's financial community, according to Lawrence Silverton, principal in Crowbar Investment. The contractor is E & K Construction Co., Encino.
A furnished model and the sales office staffed by Drinkwalter-Glenn Inc. are open weekends from noon to 5 p.m. and Monday through Wednesday from noon to 4 p.m. at 400 Monterey Road.
