Orange : Board Postpones Hearing on School-Closing Issue

March 11, 1985|G. M. BUSH

The Orange Unified School District has delayed a public hearing on whether to close additional schools, to give the district's administrative staff more time to work with parents on the issue, according to district spokewoman Jacque Wilson.

The board took the item off the agenda for Thursday night, when it will meet at 7:30 in the board room of district headquarters, 370 N. Glassell St., Orange. (Because interest in the issue was expected to attract a large audience, the meeting originally was to be at Orange High School.)

Declining enrollment and budgetary problems have led the district to consider closing four of its 24 elementary schools at the end of the school term. Also under study is closing one of the seven high schools in 1988.

The district has already sealed the fate of Peralta Junior High, whose students will be divided between the two other junior highs in the fall.
