The State

March 11, 1985

Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos and his wife Imelda are secret partners in three Silicon Valley companies in which their government has allegedly invested millions of dollars, according to a report in the San Francisco Examiner. Marcos and his wife, using intermediaries, have agreed to invest $9.25 million of their money into the business ventures of Vicente Chuidian, the Examiner said in a copyright story quoting unnamed government and other sources. The report said the couple owned 50% of Chuidian's main holding company, the Asian Reliability Co. Inc. Chuidian, 42, described as a multimillionaire and former golfing partner of Marcos, has vowed to fight what he believes are Marcos' efforts to throw him out, according to the newspaper, which said their alleged partnership had soured.
