Canada to Send 1,200 New Troops to Europe

OTTAWA — Canada announced Monday that it will send 1,200 more troops to Europe to help meet its commitment to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

The new troops, to be in place by 1986, will join the 5,900-member contingent already stationed in Europe, of which 5,500 are based in West Germany, External Affairs Minister Joe Clark and Defense Minister Erik Nielsen said.
