A San Francisco sheriff's deputy who is suffering from AIDS filed for worker's compensation, saying harassment by co-workers created too much stress for him on the job. A department official said, however, that the officer would be welcomed back, "He's a good worker and good deputy," sheriff's spokesman Ray Towbis said, adding that the department will look into the harassment allegations. "We'd be concerned if anybody harassed anybody for whatever reasons." Deputy David Thomas, 28 went on sick leave without pay after a doctor declared him unfit for his job in City Jail Thomas, a deputy for six months, filed a claim with the retirement board, asking for full pay for the time he is off work.
