Mountains Bill Clears Committee

March 14, 1985

SACRAMENTO — A bill to extend the life of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy until July 1, 1990, passed its first legislative test Tuesday.

The Assembly Natural Resources Committee approved the measure, authored by Assemblyman Gray Davis (D-Los Angeles), on an 11-1 vote and sent it to the Ways and Means Committee.

The conservancy, created in 1979 to preserve open space, is due to expire on July 1, 1986.

In recommending that the conservancy be continued, the legislative analyst's office noted that $10 million allocated to the agency in a 1984 bond act probably will not all be spent by July 1, 1986.
