Nationally known sports psychologist Dr. Thomas Tutko of San Jose State will be the featured speaker at the American Youth Soccer Organization's Southern California Annual Meetings today through Sunday in the Anaheim Marriott Hotel.
Volunteers representing more than 130,000 players in AYSO regions in Southern California will attend workshops in operations, refereeing, coaching recruitment and fundraising.
In addition to the educational workshops, a Saturday vendor show, with exhibitors featuring soccer uniforms, sports equipment and fund-raising opportunities, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
UC Irvine diver Jim Gray has been named the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. Athlete of the Year for swimming and diving, following his record-breaking performance in last weekend's conference meet in Las Vegas.
Gray won the one-meter event with 510.30 points, breaking the old mark of 459 points, and the three-meter event with 552.80, bettering the old record of 526.85. Gray will compete in the NCAA Diving Regional this weekend in Provo, Utah.
Tryouts for the American Roundball Corporation's Super Hooper basketball teams, open to boys between the 9th and 12th grades, will be held today at 5 p.m. at Cypress College. The seniors will form a team that will travel to Phoenix during Easter vacation to play in a tournament, while the underclassmen will travel to Las Vegas and Phoenix this summer.

The Capistrano Bay Park & Recreation District is searching for 6 to 12 volleyball teams to create one or two indoor volleyball leagues in the South Orange County area. The teams must consist of three male and three female players, with a roster limit of 15. Games will be scheduled for Monday nights at Dana Hills High School, beginning on April 15. The league team fees of $275 will cover gym rental, officials fees, equipment and registration. Registration deadline is April 1. Classes are offered Tuesday and Wednesday nights and Thursday and Saturday mornings, beginning on March 26 and continuing through June 1.
