The opening of a new outpatient clinic for diagnosis and treatment of acquired immune deficiency syndrome at County-USC Medical Center was announced by Supervisor Ed Edelman. A total of 741 AIDS cases have been diagnosed in Los Angeles County since 1978, and Edelman called it "the nation's No. 1 public health threat." The new facility at the hospital's outpatient clinic in the 1100 block of Cummings Street is staffed by a physician, nurse, social worker and clerical personnel.
