March 21, 1985|SUSAN LOUX \f7

Acclaimed Ethiopian artist Erte Tekle is in Southern California for 10 days to kick off an Ethiopian famine benefit sponsored by the Art Experience of Laguna Beach and the Committee Against Famine in Ethiopia.

The painter will speak at a fund-raising dinner Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Westin South Coast Plaza, 666 Anton Blvd, Costa Mesa. Patrons contributing a minimum of $350 will be able to take home their choice of a porcelain work by one of four other artists. Proceeds will benefit famine victims in Ethiopia.

Tekle's awards include induction into the Toastmasters Hall of Fame in 1972 and the Gold Mercury International Award in 1982. Three other dinners at which he will appear for the benefit are planned in Los Angeles, Dallas, and either New York or Washington, D.C.

A story on the Digest page Thursday incorrectly named acclaimed Ethiopian artist Afewerk Tekle, who will speak tonight at 8 p.m. at an Ethiopian famine benefit at the Westin South Coast Plaza Hotel. The story also incorrectly said that persons contributing more than $350 could take home a porcelain work by one of four other artists, when in fact such contributors will be able to order a work by Tekle or one of three other artists.
