Steele Foundation Awards $250,000 For Koce-tv Support

April 02, 1985

A $250,000 contribution from the Harry G. Steele Foundation of Newport Beach has been given to KOCE-TV, the Orange County public station.

Under the foundation's terms, $150,000 is to be used as a challenge grant, meaning that $1 is donated by the foundation for every $2 raised from other business sources.

The remaining $100,000 will help support Channel 50's weekly public affairs program, "Jim Cooper's Orange County."

Steele, founded in 1954, has been a frequent supporter of the Golden West College-based KOCE. The foundation made a challenge grant of $100,000 in 1982 and has helped sponsor other public affairs programs at the station.
