NOTE: The City of Lakewood Athlete of the Year is the top award of the annual Hall of Fame.

Performers of the Year are chosen for each of the sports played at Lakewood-area high schools and colleges.

Distinguished Nominees are not award winners, however, they are recognized each year for their sports accomplishments.

Although the awards ceremony was held last week, only sports statistics from the calendar year 1984 were used to select the recipients.

All-Times South Coast all-star selection. All-Southern Section third team basketball. All-Moore League and All-City in Softball. Currently a starting middlehitter and blocker at Cal State Fullerton.

PERFORMERS OF THE YEAR BADMINTON Monica Decillis......Lakewood HS

All-Moore League and All-City. Third place winner in Moore League singles. Team most valuable player.

BASEBALL Guy Montgomery.......Artesia HS

All-Suburban League. All-Southeast. All-Southern Section. Shortstop/pitcher with .389 batting average, 25 runs batted in, 10 stolen bases. As pitcher was 10-5 with 1.52 earned run average. Named Artesia senior athlete of the year. Don Herrell..........Lakewood HS

All-Moore League. All-City. All-Southern Section.

BASKETBALL Shelley Bowcutt......Artesia HS

Suburban League most valuable player. All-Southern Section first team. Valley Christian tournament MVP. San Diego all-tournament team. Averaged 19.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
