Five women have been recognized for leadership by the Santa Monica YWCA. Sister Magdalen Coughlin, president of Mount St. Mary's College, presented the awards.

Honored were Florence Cardine, president of the Santa Monica College Patrons Assn. and a community volunteer and Jimmie Lee Rapley, retired teacher at John Adams Junior High School.

Also Johanne Hanser, retired associate clinical professor of nursing and dean of students at the UCLA School of Nursing and volunteer at the Westside Independent Services for the Elderly (WISE); Elaine Locksley, president and chief executive officer of Vikings Savings & Loan, and Dr. Jane Murray, associate director of outpatient training and geriatric coordinator in the Family Practice Residency Program at Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center.
