A recommendation to capture all the remaining wild California condors and place them in local zoos was postponed by federal wildlife officials. At a meeting in Los Angeles, the Condor Recovery Team decided to seek advice from other wildlife experts before making the recommendation to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The proposal to capture the birds was made in response to an apparent plunge in the wild population of the endangered species. Under the plan, the wild birds would become part of an ongoing captive breeding effort at the San Diego and Los Angeles zoos.
