The smog season got rolling Sunday as light winds and hazy sunshine combined to brew two first-stage alerts and produced unhealthy air throughout inland areas of the Los Angeles Basin.
Smoggy skies are expected again Monday, with sunny days forecast during the coming week after morning clouds burn off, according to the National Weather Service.
The Air Quality Management District declared a first-stage alert for the San Gabriel Valley at 2 p.m. and another first-stage alert for the San Bernardino Valley several hours later. During such episodes, which traditionally occur between April and October, district officials advise people with lung and heart problems and the elderly to stay indoors.
