Vikings Get No. 2 Pick in Draft From Oilers and Will Have First Shot at Miami's Kosar

April 10, 1985|Associated Press

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings announced Tuesday they have reached agreement with the Houston Oilers on a trade to enable the Vikings to draft University of Miami quarterback Bernie Kosar.

The deal calls for the Vikings to get the Oilers' first-round choice, the second pick in the 1985 National Football League draft, in exchange for Minnesota's first- and second-round selections, said Viking spokesman Merrill Swanson.

Swanson said the trade with Houston does not mean the Vikings will draft Kosar.

Kosar led Miami to a national championship two seasons ago. He decided this spring to complete his degree requirements over the summer and pass up his remaining college eligibility to turn professional.
