City Council members have elected Charles Belba the city's new mayor.
Belba, a Lomita resident since 1960, has served on the City Council for 17 years and as mayor for four one-year terms. He also has been mayor pro tem for three terms.
Belba, 51, a computer science teacher at Orville Wright Junior High School in Westchester, replaces Harold Croyts, a five-year councilman who just completed his first term as mayor.
As provided in the city's code, officials select a new mayor and mayor pro tem each April. By Lomita tradition, after the mayor pro tem completes his term he is elected mayor.
Councilman Hal Hall was elected mayor pro tem. He has served as a councilman for 11 years, including mayor for two terms and mayor pro tem for one term. Hall, 75, is a Lomita businessman.
