Professor Named LAOOC Amateur Athletic Foundation President

April 18, 1985|KENNETH REICH

A 54-year-old Yale University law school professor who has specialized in issues of sports law was named Wednesday president of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee's Amateur Athletic Foundation, which will disperse Los Angeles' share of the 1984 Olympic surplus.

Stanton Wheeler was narrowly elected over two other candidates whose names were not divulged at a meeting of the foundation's board.

In a news conference, Wheeler, who grew up in the L.A. area, said he was looking forward to a comprehensive study to determine how the Foundation's nearly $100 million can be best spent to assist youth sports.
