Home magazine garden articles bring Times readers the best and latest Southern California garden news. When Jim Allen of Cambria (Letters, March 3) stated that he had seen articles "similar" to Home's rose article in other magazines, I pulled out my treasured Jan. 13 copy of that article to enjoy once again the beautiful illustrations by Marianne D. Wallace. Has anyone ever splashed Ole and Mon Cheri roses across a page with such vibrant color and depth of feeling as this artist? What a treat for rose lovers!
That same article told us: "One famous English garden contains a border of light-lavender and pink flowers mixed with pale-green and gray foliage--a sleepy design that suddenly springs to life when only a few bright red roses come into bloom." What a color lesson!
Other information in that article influenced me to purchase an Olympiad rose, rather than orange-cast Ole, to plant beside my garden's Double Delight and Mon Cheri roses for better color harmony.
Don't criticize these outstanding Home garden articles; save them as a valuable resource.
