Santa Monica

April 25, 1985

The City Council has voted to post signs on the Santa Monica Pier and at entrances to beach parking lots warning people of the danger of eating some fish caught in the Santa Monica Bay. The action came despite county plans to post signs in the same areas.

Several council members, in reviewing the wording for the county sign, decided that the city's sign was more concise. The city's sign, which will include a picture of the white croaker, will read:

"Warning. Eating fish caught in Santa Monica Bay may be harmful to your health because of chemical contamination. You should not eat the fish, commonly known as White Croaker, Kingfish or Tomcod.
