James S. Ring, former senior vice president of Ring Brothers Corp., Santa Monica, has joined Goldrich & Kest Industries, Culver City, as director of planning.

Cynthia L. Shaffer, Carlsberg Construction Co.'s director of marketing for the past year, has been promoted to vice president and is in charge of sales and marketing of new home communities.

Robert S. Harris, dean of the USC School of Architecture, is one of five prominent architectural educators to be named distinguished professor of the Assn. of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. Other recipients are Alfred Caldwell, Illinois Institute of Technology; Fay Jones, University of Arkansas; Charles Moore, UCLA and the University of Texas, and Ralph Rapson, dean of the School of Architecture of the University of Minnesota.

Samuel B. Williams has been appointed president of ICOM Properties Inc., San Diego. He previously served as president of Westcoast Trust Deed Corp., San Diego.

Robert T. Mathews has been appointed president and general manager of Konstruction Ko-Op, Los Angeles, formed by Mathews and a Canadian-based firm, Modulex, a year ago.

Robert J. Anderson has joined Archiplan, a Los Angeles-based architectural and urban design firm, as an associate. He was associated with Prats Anderson Coffee Architects.

William W. Abelmann of La Canada, a real estate valuation counselor and appraiser, has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Valuation Science by Western States University for Professional Studies. The honor was conferred upon him for his contributions to the real estate profession over a period of years.

Don Anderson has been appointed district sales manager for Developers Marketing Associates Inc., San Diego.

Ernest Guan, an independent design consultant, has been appointed director of the hotel division for Rothenberg Sawasy Architects, Los Angeles. Promotions include Joe E. Guthrie, formerly the director of project administration, to director of operations; Jaclyn Thompson-Bastian, formerly director of interior design, to director of marketing. The new director of marketing is Christopher T. Jones, who served as a senior project coordinator.

Valencia Co., a division of the Newhall Land & Farming Co., has announced the following promotions: Don Puente, senior vice president for commercial/industrial marketing; Phil Stidham, vice president of commercial/industrial land development; Gloria Casvin, vice president of planning; Lynda Chadwick, vice president of residential sales; Chris Cooper, vice president and general manager of the Valencia Design Center.

Jay D. Haskell and Joseph R. Kraus III have been named executive vice president and corporate secretary, respectively, of the Seeley Co., Los Angeles. Haskell joined the firm in 1983 and Kraus in 1972.

Norman Young, a civil engineer and developer, has opened his own real estate office, the Century 21-American Realty, at 618 W. Main Street in Alhambra. Realtor Rose Wynn has been appointed general manager and trainer. She was the 1984 state president of the Women's Council division of the National Assn. of Realtors.

Gregory M. Smith has joined James Leigh Alcorn & Associates, La Jolla, as an architectural associate.

Robert Villaescusa, formerly with Steven S. Paschall & Associates, San Diego, has joined Salerno/Livington & Partners, San Diego, as a senior project manager.

Jeffrey L. Nichols, formerly a project manager, has been promoted to vice/president/director of marketing for Business Properties Development Co.'s office projects, Irvine.

Ron Goodwyn, a veteran in the construction industry, has been appointed executive vice president of Brighton International, a Los Angeles-based developer.

Monica Moore, a Newport Beach real estate appraiser, has been appointed to the office of vice governor for the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, District 5, which covers the southwestern United States.

Dana Seelig has been promoted to principal at Hogan Roy Partners, Costa Mesa. He has been responsible for irrigation design and project management.

Philip J. Amantia has been appointed regional sales manager for the Fredericks Development Corp., Ventura.

Gregory Worrell recently joined Palm Valley Country Club in Palm Desert, as general manager. He was food and beverage director for the Keauhou Beach Hotel in Hawaii.
