Three Cars, Cyclist Collide; Two Killed

May 05, 1985

Two people were killed early Saturday in a traffic accident in Venice involving three cars and a bicyclist, Los Angeles police reported.

Shannon Rob Collins, 22, of Los Angeles was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence in connection with the accident, according to Officer Terry Hale.

Police said Collins was driving northbound on Vista Del Mar at Sandpiper Street when he rear-ended a bicyclist, killing Donald Paul Hashimoto, 27, of Torrance.

As the bicyclist was being helped from the road by a second rider, a car driven by Andrea Thomas, 21, of Inglewood slowed to avoid the accident. Her car was struck from behind by a car driven by Javier Moreno, 19, of Inglewood. A passenger in Moreno's car--identified as Angela Elaine Vasquez, 19, of Inglewood--was thrown through the windshield and killed.

Collins was being held at the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Division Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.
