Murdoch won't ask for a waiver of certain rules.

May 09, 1985

Publisher Rupert Murdoch, who with oilman Marvin Davis is buying seven big-city television stations, has no plans to request a waiver of federal regulations that could force him to sell his newspapers in New York and Chicago, a spokesman for Murdoch said. At the same time, the spokesman, Howard J. Rubenstein, said that some "very serious inquiries have come in in the last few days" about the possibility of buying the New York Post, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Village Voice, a weekly published in New York.
