Rod Stewart, stopped by authorities for suspected drunken driving in West Hollywood, signed a few autographs for fans before he was whisked off for fingerprinting, authories said Monday.

The raspy-voiced singer was alone in his Porsche on Sunset Boulevard near San Vicente Boulevard when he was pulled over at 1 a.m. Sunday by Highway Patrol officers, a CHP spokesman said.

Some fans spotted the singer and crowded about him to get his autograph, officer Alfredo Perez said. Stewart, 40, signed his name for several dozen fans before he was administered a field sobriety test and taken to the West Hollywood sheriff's station for booking, Perez said. He was released on his own recognizance about 4:30 a.m.

Stewart's manager Arnold Stiefel said Monday that Stewart was driving home to Bel-Air after having dinner with friends. Stiefel added, "We're confident that the results of the sobriety test will show that he was not intoxicated."
