Long-Distance Chat

May 19, 1985|Associated Press

NEW YORK — Before this century is over, says AT&T, a person with a cellular car phone could drive coast to coast on an interstate highway and carry on an unbroken conversation. Thus, someone seeking to set a record could start a cellular call in Los Angeles and end it in New York City, perhaps speaking to the same person all across the country. Incidentally, the longest, long-distance calls have been made from Earth to astronauts.
