Medical Buildings : Permanente Health Unit Started in Garden Grove

Construction is under way on the three-phase Kaiser Permanente Medical Center on a 27.5-acre site at Euclid Street and Chapman Avenue in Garden Grove.

The first phase, a $5.1-million, three-story, 41,262-square-foot medical office building, is scheduled for completion next spring. The $114.8-million second phase will include a 400-bed hospital, a 160-office addition to the 32-office medical building in the first phase and a seven-level parking structure.

Construction of the second phase will begin in 1986 and is expected to be completed in early 1990. Plans for the third phase have yet to be announced.

Harnish, Morgan & Causey of Ontario is the consultant architectural firm on the medical center project and Berry Construction, Upland, is the general contractor for the first phase.

Gateway Medical Plaza

Gateway Medical Plaza, a $2.6-million medical office building, is nearing completion in Garden Grove at Harbor Boulevard and Palm Street, adjacent to the 175-bed Garden Grove/AMI Hospital.

The two-story, 20,000-square-foot office building is being developed by Pan American Equities Inc. of Irvine, which is also handling leasing.

Loma Linda Project

An August completion is planned for a $10-million medical office condominium project being developed by Loma Linda Centre, a California general partnerships, at the southwest corner of Barton Road and Mountain View Avenue. The 12-building complex will contain 23 medical office condominiums. Parking will be provided for 265 cars.

First Interstate Mortgage Co. Health Care Financing Group, Pasadena, provided a $7-million financing package for the project. Blueport Enterprises Inc. is the contractor.

Imaging Facility Finished

Construction has been completed on the $728,000, 7,000-square-foot Magnetic Resonance Imaging Research Facility designed by Woodford & Bernard Architects, Los Angeles and San Diego, for the UC San Diego Medical Center. The general contractor was Frank Stahl Construction Co.

San Marcos Care Center

The $600,000-, 12,500-square-foot San Marcos Urgent Care Center built by Hernandez & Associates, San Marcos, for Dr. Ron Varcak, has been honored by Pascoe Building Systems for its use of steel. Designed by Robert McQuead, Escondido, the building was completed in January.

Newbury Park Facility

A $2.6-million, 19,000-square-foot medical building developed by Fonner & Associates Ltd., West Los Angeles, in Newbury Park has been master leased to Maxicare for utilization by Oakview Medical Group. The Hillcrest Medical Center on Ventu Park Road was designed by Kurt Meyer Partners, Hollywood.
