City Manager John Jalili has recommended financing for three neighborhood organizations next year that some City Council members have said should not continue to receive city funds.
Jalili recommended spending $98,641 for the Ocean Park Community Organization, $101,851 for the Pico Neighborhood Assn. and $90,032 for Mid-City Neighbors. But debate is expected at next Tuesday night's council meeting.
Jalili said that the groups qualify despite changes the council made in the criteria for city financing in January in an attempt to channel funds to low- and moderate-income neighborhoods.
Jalili said that 46% of the people in the Ocean Park area, 48% in the Mid-Cities area and 56% in the Pico neighborhood are considered to be in the low- and moderate-income categories.
