Jarvis Acquitted of Slander

May 24, 1985|Associated Press

SACRAMENTO — A Superior Court jury ruled today that tax crusader Howard Jarvis did not slander a Davis woman who filed a $2-million lawsuit for remarks Jarvis made five years ago at a raucous university rally.

Jarvis, 83, told the jury of five women and three men Thursday, in the suit by former Davis community activist Darla Davisson, that he told a heckler, not Davisson: "Why don't you go to Nevada? In a house they have over there, you couldn't make a quarter."
