The low- and mid-rise cityscape of Irvine is being altered with the construction of 2600 Michelson, a $70-million, 16-story office tower that will be the tallest commercial project in the Orange County community.
The 327,000-square-foot hexagonal building, designed by Gin Wong Associates, Los Angeles, is under construction on an eight-acre site at the southwest corner of Michelson Drive and Teller Avenue, a mile east of John Wayne Airport. The developer is Transpacific Development, Torrance, also involved in the planned development of 1.3 million square feet at South Coast Metro Center in Costa Mesa.
"A first-class building such as 2600 Michelson will serve to enhance the quality of the office projects in the Orange County marketplace," according to Bob Russell, a Transpacific project manager.
The Irvine business complex and surrounding areas in Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Santa Ana are the corporate home for more than 2,700 major firms, he added.
Clad in granite, 2600 Michelson will offer tenants a sophisticated Honeywell building automation system including an integrated security system featuring card key access to individual floors and offices.
