Retired Adm. Hyman Rickover, reacting to his letter of censure for accepting $67,628 in gratuities from General Dynamics Corp., said in a letter to Navy Secretary John F. Lehman Jr. that all of the gifts except two pieces of jewelry were "trinkets" that he gave away. "I can state unequivocally that I was never influenced in the recommendation to award or amend any contract, or in the making of any determination with respect to the performance of any contract, by any item or service provided me by General Dynamics," Rickover wrote.
