Mayor Ernie Kell has nominated prominent local businessman George Talin to replace retiring Harbor Commissioner Richard Wilson on July 1.
The nomination will go to the City Council for comment this week, and a ratification vote is set for June 25. A majority of the council has said it will vote for Talin, 56, a wealthy tire dealer and bank director.
Kell said he selected Talin because of his involvement and leadership in numerous community and philanthropic organizations and because of his financial independence.
Since moving to Long Beach in 1967, Talin has built Talin Tire Inc. into a 13-outlet, 200-employee regional tire service and sales business. He is a founder of the National Bank of Long Beach and vice president of its board of trustees.
