South Bay Hospital won the City Council's approval this week to erect several modular buildings on its North Prospect Avenue grounds to provide a temporary home for the hospital's chemical dependency and eating disorder programs.

The two programs must be moved from the hospital's second floor to make room for a new obstetrics unit, said Kenneth T. Ono, the hospital's executive director. Most of the programs will be relocated to the third floor, but the modular buildings will provide an additional 3,600 feet for administrative offices and meeting rooms, he said.

Ono predicted that the temporary buildings will be needed for about three years while the hospital develops plans for a permanent location for the programs.
