The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District has given developers until July 8 to submit proposals for purchasing and developing the vacant Wright School campus.
The 20-acre downtown campus, zoned for a hotel and office buildings, has been appraised at $10 million, said Bruce Butler, the school district's associate superintendent of business services. The district in March solicited letters of qualifications from 100 developers and last month selected eight of "excellent quality," Butler said. He declined to identify the developers.
Butler said the district has no deadline for selling the property, adding, "We're interested in a good development at the right price."
The district has hired a consultant, Lynn Sedway and Associates of San Rafael, to help evaluate the proposals at a cost not to exceed $7,500, Butler said.
The property was once supposed to be the site of a card club authorized by a 1983 city ordinance, but that ordinance was rescinded by the City Council in March.
