Discrimination Case Being Considered

June 20, 1985

A decision is not expected for several months in a sex discrimination case brought by a Poway doctor, Charles Gilman, against Children's Hospital and Health Center.

A hearing in the case was held in San Diego last week.

Gilman charges that the hospital failed to consider him for a position working in its Child Sexual Abuse Protection Program solely because he is male. According to attorney Debora Peteler, the hospital hires only women physicians into the program in order to minimize trauma to young victims of sexual assault.

After examining briefs, the judge in the case will write a proposed decision, which will then be adopted or rejected by the State Fair Employment and Housing Commission.
