Without discussion, the City Council this week abolished the Board of Zoning Adjustments and transferred the board's duties to the Planning Commission.

The move, originally proposed as a cost-cutting measure at a budget session June 13, is expected to save the city $3,500 annually in photocopying and secretarial services.

Mayor George Barks cast the sole dissenting vote, saying not enough money would be saved to justify the move.

The board is a five-member volunteer panel appointed by the council to review zone variances and requests for conditional-use permits.
