School board member Caroline Coleman pleaded innocent at her arraignment in Los Angeles Superior Court last week on a felony charge that she filed false expense reports for more than $1,200 in school district funds.

Coleman, 48, has been accused of failing to attend, or even register for, an educational conference in New Orleans in November, 1983, after taking money allocated for the trip. She insists that she did attend.

If convicted, Coleman faces up to three years in prison and loss of her school board seat. She also would be barred from holding public office and would lose her job as a probation officer for Los Angeles County.

A pretrial hearing is set for July 30.
