Free services for adults recovering from mental illness are offered six days a week at the Project Return Center, 1328 2nd St., Santa Monica.
Participants may socialize, develop new interests through education and learn independent living and vocational skills Monday through Saturday.
Classes include typing, cooking, sewing, exercise, weight reduction and personal grooming. There is also instruction in creative writing, drama and musical expression.
Part-time vocational training positions for clerical, maintenance, outreach and workshop assistants are available. No fees are charged.
The center is part of the Mental Health Assn. in Los Angeles County. It grew out of the Project Return Program, a countywide federation of more than 40 self-help clubs with 500 members. The center is operated through private and public funding.
