The Arcadia City Council has approved wage increases for police and firemen and other city employees. Police and fire officials will receive a 5% increase starting Dec. 1 and an additional 5% starting Dec. 1, 1987. In July, 1986, they will receive a 3% increase that will be offset by a 3% reduction in the amount of their retirement costs paid by the city.
City Manager George Watts said the increase would bring salaries to slightly above average for comparable departments. A patrolman now makes a maximum of $2,565 a month. Among other city employees, management personnel will receive a 5% increase. General employees (non-management and non-union) will get raises of 5% a year for three years. Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees will receive 5% a year for two years.
