MONTEREY PARK — A Monterey Park woman was found beaten to death in her home in the 300 block of East Arlight Street on Sunday, and the Police Department is looking at recent murders and assaults in neighboring cities to determine if there are any similarities.
Lt. Joe Santoro said Joyce Nelson, 61, who lived alone, did not have her throat slashed as did two recent murder victims in Arcadia.
Monterey Park police have released a description of a possible suspect in the Nelson slaying. Santoro declined to say how police got the description but said the man is Caucasian, age 25 to 30, about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. He said the man may also be responsible for the May 14 murder of William Doi, 65, who was shot after a burglar entered his Trumbower Avenue home.
The two Arcadia murder victims, Mary Cannon, 77, who was found July 2, and Patty Elaine Higgins, 32, who was found June 28, also lived alone.
Also under investigation is an attack on a 16-year-old girl in her Sierra Madre home last Friday and an attack on two sisters, Mable Bell, 84, and Nettie Lang, 81, in their Monrovia home June 2.
The Sheriff's Department is assisting local police in investigating all the crimes.
