A First Prize for 'Kisses From the Angels'

July 18, 1985

If freckles are "kisses from the angels," as Janie Langley tells her daughter, then the mother from Westminster has been smothered with heavenly affection.

Langley was among 22 entrants of all ageswho entered the Orange County Fair's Freckle Contest Tuesday. During the judging, Langley confided to contest emcee Barbara Huff that she once told her daughter that the spray of facial coloring adorning their noses and cheeks is the result of a cherubic buss.

The contest judges, who were awarding fair ribbons and buttons as prizes, were apparently guided by the spirit of Langley's explanation to solve a problem: Faced with excessive evidence of prolific celestial puckering, they split the honors for the Most Freckles among four entrants.

Winners in the freckles competition were:

MOST: Janie Langley, adult, Westminister; Renee Lancaster, 15, Westminster; Elizabeth Scheller, 8, Garden Grove, and Jeanne Myers, 7, Fountain Valley.

LEAST: Todd Hylton, 5, Costa Mesa.

DARKEST: Lisa Sherratt, 11, Fountain Valley.

LIGHTEST: Rachel Cummard, 12, Cerritos.
