Gardena

July 25, 1985

Gardena City Council meetings will be telecast on a cable television community access channel for a six-month trial period, the council decided on Tuesday.

Taping will begin in about two months, after the city installs new lighting in the council chambers, City Manager Kenneth Landau said. Group W Cable has agreed to supply tape equipment and personnel.

Councilman Paul Tsukahara unsuccessfully urged the council to adopt guidelines to prevent abuse of the telecasts by council members "grandstanding" for political purposes.

The council did agree that meetings will be taped in their entirety and shown without editing.

The telecasts will allow citizens to see their city "in action," and perhaps prompt more interest in city affairs, Councilman James Cragin said.
