Monrovia

July 25, 1985

Two motorcycles for traffic patrol will be added to the Monrovia Police Department within two months. A motorcycle officer will be selected from within the department and an additional officer will be hired, bringing the department's number of sworn officers to 49, Police Chief Bill Tubbs said. He said the motorcycles will patrol locations that have a history of frequent accidents.

In addition to being less expensive than patrol cars, Tubbs said, motorcycles are more maneuverable and can stop violators faster. The program will cost $100,000 the first year, and Tubbs said he estimates that enough traffic tickets will be written to generate $70,000 in revenue to the city.
